We believe that God has called the Church to be an impact to our community. We believe that sometimes the only way the world can know Christ is by His people becoming His hands, His feet, and His face.
On October 29, 2012 our community and neighborhood - South Beach, Staten Island - and the surrounding areas were struck with such force by Hurricane Sandy that multiple lives were lost and thousands more were displaced. Our community of faith have been given by God the opportunity to be a beacon of hope and a place of reprieve from the devastation. Out of all the houses and buildings that do not have power, our church building miraculously have power. Since October 31, we have been previledged to provide heat, coffee, recharging stations (for electronics), sandwiches, soup, drinks - small comforts - to some of the worst hit families of New York.
The Church as a whole has the great chance to be Christ's Hands and Feet to these wonderful but devastated people. Please follow us on facebook to know what is needed and to make your donations as well as receive the latest updates regarding our outreach and the lives of our neighbors! God bless you.
You can make your donations here as well. Everything is tax-deductible and your donations are secured through Paypal.
If your church want to participate in helping our community, please have them call the church at (347) 464-9722 (WPCC). We are currently looking to build clean up crews to help families get rid of debris. Stay blessed.
As of November 2nd, our church has turned from reprieve center into a full out relief center. When we started with just coffee, power supply and some sandwiches, we had spent just over $400 to supply the need. Since then a reality TV Star, "Big Ang" from the "Mob Wives", and an international boxing promoter, Teddy Atlas, has come and donated truck loads of items to the church. Companies like Home Depot and Lowe's have also donated to the relief efforts. Foundations like the Carl Bini foundation with Partners In Sound (our first major supply of donations) have made it their business to restock us. Groups like Bare Knuckle Life NY (a clothing group), Fighting Foward (a mentoring group headed by Frank "Notorious" Galarza), Volunteer Heart Ambulance, Stephen A. Spinelli - Attorney at Law and numerous others have added to the warmth and food for the devastated community. Schools from the area: P.S. 39, 48, Susan Wagner High School, St. Joseph Hill and others sent their own supplies to us to bring it closer to the need. Churches across the area (and the nation) that are too many to name have come and provided necessary items for people's use. Then there are the individual donors who made their way some as far as Indiana - a group from Texas is on their way as I write - to bring hope and healing to the hurting. Online donations coming from as far away as the Philippines totalling over $2500 not to mention those who physically handed me money - some were affected themselves - have given just to ease the burden of recovery.
And how can I end this update without mentioning the very "victims" themselves, who, against all odds, defied the spirit of depression and discouragement, rose up and gave of their money, time, energy and heart just to see other "worst off than me" rebound from the worst devastation that ever hit this part of the nation.
We are just so overjoyed that we have been set up by God to be able to be the conduit of God's graces to people from all nationalities and walks of life who have lost everything from Hurricane Sandy. And to be eye witness of the greatness of the people of our church community and of people as a whole; what a marvelous gift! Today we no longer speak about being the Church - we are out showing it daily! What an honor and a privilege!
(BTW, a member of Rennaisance Church from Summit New Jersey, surveyed our electircal system which was under water for 2 days. He said there was no way that we should have had power to the upstairs of the building - the very room that is now the recieving and giving center of South Beach.)
